dba-duck-server-blog-logo-final Need help with SQL Server MVPs? Want someone to deploy PowerShell on your IT architecture? Yeah, we have no idea what any of that means either. Luckily there’s Ben Miller that knows all that, along with everything else server and networking related. We on the other hand know all about great logo design, so when Ben wanted a logo for his blog, he turned to us. Here’s the case study detailing how we went about delivering the blog logo. Client had a good idea of what he wanted:
I would like something with a duck and a database icon. I am not sure how you would incorporate a duck, but something more funny than serious on the duck side. But I would like to represent Database in there somehow or SQL. I am open to dialog before creating begins, I just need good logos.
Here’s what we came up with…

Server blog logo version 1:

Server blog logo version 2:

dba-duck-server-blog-logo-2

Server blog logo version 3:

dba-duck-server-blog-logo-3 Ben was happy with this, but wanted a small change:
These look great. I really like the 2nd logo with the duck in the cloud. I would like one change. I would like “ben miller” put in the bottom right of the DBADuck. Example like thomaslarock.com And it can be in Blue like in the cloud of the duck.

Server blog logo version 2, revision A:

dba-duck-server-blog-logo-2-revision-a We were getting close. Our client was happy, just wasn’t sure about the cloud.
This is great. I would have liked to have a database in there somewhere, but the duck is perfect and I am not sure how you would get a database in there.

Server blog logo version 2, revision B:

Server blog logo version 2, revision C:

dba-duck-server-blog-logo-2-revision-c And with that change we were almost there! Client was very happy, just wanted to see one small adjustment:
I think it looks better with the shadow, so can the shadow be put back under the duck in the new one (version C)?

Server blog logo version 2, revision D:

dba-duck-server-blog-logo-2-revision-d After reviewing the logo overnight, Ben made up his mind:
Version 2A is the file I would like. The one with the Cloud/Duck and ben miller at the right bottom.
It happened to be our favourite design too, and we were happy to deliver the web and print-ready files. Now the logo is online so if you want to check it out, or if you want the help of a reliable Enterprise DBA Architect, go here: dbaduck.com.

Planning Your Logo?

As you look for a logo designer, keep in mind that a designer needs to pair creativity with great technical expertise. For example:

  • If the wrong design program is used, your logo will blur when resized.
  • If unprintable colors are used, your logo will look wrong when printed.
  • If final quality control is skipped, your logo will have costly mistakes.

Business owner trying to save a few bucks just end up paying twice to redo their logo and reprint their marketing material. Avoid surprises, by learning about impossible colors, vector graphics, and the importance of quality control. Learn more
